"But more classrooms and more teachers are not enough. We must seek an educational system which grows in excellence as it grows in size. This means better training for our teachers. It means preparing youth to enjoy their hours of leisure as well as their hours of labor. It means exploring new techniques of teaching, to find new ways to stimulate the love of learning and the capacity for creation."
-By President Lyndon B Johnson
“It is the responsibility of every adult... to make sure that children hear what we have learned from the lessons of life and to hear over and over that we love them and that they are not alone.”
-By Marian Wright Edelman
"Parents have become so convinced that educators know what is best for their children that they forget that they themselves are really the experts."
-By Marian Wright Edelman
"Passion is certainly not the same as happiness, unless we move beyond the transitory happiness of the moment and seek out a much deeper happiness that ultimately comes from achieving out potential."
- By John Hagel

Until taking this class, I didn't know that Lyndon B. Johnson was involved in the creation of Head Start. I like how his upbringing in a rural, poverty stricken area influenced his desire to bring about positive social change. Also, I like the quotes that you chose from Marian Wright Edelman so much that they might find their way onto my blog. :)
ReplyDeleteThese are such good quotes to live by. Your quote about parents forgetting they are the first experts is so important. So often parents forget and think that because they are not the teachers, that they do not know what is often best. I have to remind myself of this all of the time when dealing with my sons teachers. Thank you.
