"But more classrooms and more teachers are not enough. We must seek an educational system which grows in excellence as it grows in size. This means better training for our teachers. It means preparing youth to enjoy their hours of leisure as well as their hours of labor. It means exploring new techniques of teaching, to find new ways to stimulate the love of learning and the capacity for creation."
-By President Lyndon B Johnson
“It is the responsibility of every adult... to make sure that children hear what we have learned from the lessons of life and to hear over and over that we love them and that they are not alone.”
-By Marian Wright Edelman
"Parents have become so convinced that educators know what is best for their children that they forget that they themselves are really the experts."
-By Marian Wright Edelman
"Passion is certainly not the same as happiness, unless we move beyond the transitory happiness of the moment and seek out a much deeper happiness that ultimately comes from achieving out potential."

Personal Childhood Blog
I was eight years old when I met my first best friend Anitra. I was a very shy and naive little girl when I met her. Anitra was a precocious eight year girl that taught me how to stay away from other kids that caused trouble. She also taught me how to speak up for myself. She was a very caring friend who demonstrated the characteristics of a true friend. Although at eight years old a child may not understand the true value of a friend, when I think about the relationship we had I appreciate her being in my life at that time. We were friend's until we graduated from middle school. I will never forget how she cared for me.

| A Mother's Love |
My mother is a God-fearing woman who shows great compassion to everyone that comes in contact with her. My mother was a teacher by profession, who taught me how to read and write. My mother taught me the value of being a young lady with character. I admire her wisdom and her strong faith in God. My mother showed me how to be a wife to my husband.
My father is a strong man of God. He showed me much love since I was the young child and I am his little girl. My father demonstrated how a man should take care of his family. One thing I admire that my father did when I was a child was taking caring of me when I was sick. I believe my father took great joy in taking care of me while I was sick.
My oldest brother is very caring and protective. I enjoy being around my brother because he always make me laugh. While growing up my brother introduce me to different types of music and movies, he was very protective of me. I admire my brother and respect him like a father.
My paternal grandmother has a special place in my heart. I really enjoyed spending time with her when she was alive. She would cook all the foods I enjoyed eating. She would also give me money without my parents knowing. I enjoyed seeing her smile. Seeing her smile would make me happy when I felt sad. My grandmother made me feel really loved and special to her.
All of my family and old friends continue to influence me because their love and caring actions continue to have an impact on my life. I have learned how to be friend, a mother, teacher and a giver.

What fuel my passion for early childhood learning?
Since having the opportunity to work with children in preschool and kindergarten my passion for early childhood education has been on fire. I get inspired seeing the excitement children have when they learn new things. When I volunteered at the children center at my church, I saw the positive influence teachers can have on children. It brought me great joy when a parent would pick up their child from the children center and the child was excited to explain what they learned in class. I think it is imperative that a child has a solid foundation for learning at an early age. I think so many children fall behind in the educational system because they didn't have a solid foundation for learning.

Favorite children book
Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown is a children book that is dear to my heart. The book is a great bedtime story to read to children that allow you to introduce the children to everyday vocabulary. I enjoy the rhyming of the words that allows the reader to add excitement to the story.

Maya Angelou Quote
“Any book that helps a child to form a habit of reading, to make reading one of his deep and continuing needs, is good for him.”
